‘Bump’ at No. 9 Cork St, London… really good things happening right here. Very glad I got to see it before it closes on the 23rd. Lovely idea for @friezeofficial to have a space to show artists from various international galleries. Lucky for me anyway…

I’ve been working on a new print edition with @inkonpaperpress as a companion piece to 2021’s Volant. And like Volant, it’s a figure set against a background of one of my paintings - in this case ‘Burning and Spinning’ whilst it was still in progress.
My paintings change a lot on their journey to completion. Elements shift and disappear; are redrawn, edited and added to during the struggle to ‘finish’ a piece, and often these lost stages have a value to them that need a story of their own.

#wip - and feels like it’ll be ‘in progress’ forever sometimes. But the two paintings are now joined as one, and an upside down day with too much thinking, righted itself and became almost thoughtless. André Masson called it automatic drawing, or something similar, and though that’s nothing to do with this, I think I know how he felt when he started his ‘experiments’! Not thinking too much is a gift.
